March 26, 2021
Once again, we are running you guys through the buying and building process of a truck. This time we are buying and building a Chevrolet Silverado. The cost of the truck AND the build including wheels, tires, and suspension will amount to under $10,000. Let’s get started.

Buy the Truck
Starting budget: $10,000
First things first, you’ve got to go get a truck before you can build it. This one was an easy choice for us, when you get a Chevy Silverado under $10,000, you have to go for a Cat-Eye. This iconic truck is very coveted and can be hard to find but if you can get your hands on one it is more than worth it. The Cat-Eye Silverado is a body style that ran from 2003-2007.
The truck that we are picking up is a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, LS2 4dr Crew Cab 5.8 ft. SB (4.8L 8cyl 4A). Right at the tail end of the Cat-Eye generation, to get this truck in a clean condition it will cost an average of $6,568. Now it’s time to start building it.
Budget after buying truck: $3432
Suspension
The first modification that we are going to go for is the suspension. This is important to start with because it will decide how large we can go with the tires. One of the most popular suspension options and cost-effective choices is going to be the ProRyde Chevrolet GM 1/2 ton LD 1988-2006 (6-Lug) Duck Head Torsion Key Leveling Systems.
This is a great choice to get a new look from your truck while not putting too much stress on it and then dealing with maintenance issues and allowing for larger tires. This leveling kit will only cost you $189.
Budget after buying suspension: $3,243
Wheels
For wheels, we are going with an Anthem Off-Road classic. A long-time favorite, the Intimidator in satin black 18x9 +18. This design is made for all outdoor activities that you plan to take your truck or SUV on. The Intimidator features a multi-spoke design, a full cap in the center, and the Anthem logo spanned across one of the spokes.
This is a one-piece, alloy wheel and it comes in black milled and satin black finishes. A set of these wheels will only cost you $1,020 for a set.
Budget after wheels: $2,223
Tires
Moving onto tires, for this build, we decided to go with the Venom Power Terra Hunter X/T 33x12.50R18LT (Load E). This is a hybrid tire meaning that it is well suited to be taken off the pavement but will still be quiet and last long on the road.
This is one of our most popular tire selections and is loved by many for its durability, traction, and price. A set of these tires will only cost you $897 for a set when packaged with your wheels.
Budget after tires: $1,326
Just like that, you have a new-to-you customized truck, all under $10,000. And you are still left with $1,326 for lug nuts, TPMS, ceramic coating, or Anthem gear.
Like always, remember that we offer as low as 0% APR financing, so you can buy now and pay later.
