How to Pick the Best Off-Road Setup
February 25, 2020
The world of off-roading can be confusing, especially if you're new. With so many options for wheels, tires, suspension, and accessories, it can be hard to know what you need.
That's where Anthem Off-Road comes in.
Today we'll take you through how to choose the best off-road setup for your ride!
There are a ton of aftermarket wheels out there. A TON.
But here's why you should choose Anthem Off-Road wheels.
- Anthem Off-Road wheels are designed by people like you
- Anthem Off-Road wheels are built to last
That's right. At Anthem Off-Road, we don't just make wheels for you. We make them with you. Every new Anthem wheel starts out with a basic design that is sent out to our Anthem Insiders which are people just like you help us with the new design to ensure that they are stylish and durable.
Aside from just being designed with you, Anthem Off-Road wheels are built to withstand the rigors of your daily lifestyle. Stop worrying about going off-road, towing a camper, or even just getting your nice new wheels dirty. Our wheels are built to withstand all of these conditions. We believe you should be able to have your cake and eat it too.
So when you order your new set of wheels from us, go out and have some fun with them!
Like wheels, there are a lot of options for tires as well. It's important to know what kind of terrain you will be traversing through when it comes to choosing the right tires for your off-road setup.
Generally speaking, there are three types of off-road tires available:
All-terrain tires are designed for everyday use. They feature smaller tread blocks and gaps to keep them quiet on the road while still being able to eject water.
They usually have siping as well which are little grooves cut into the tire to pick up small amounts of snow to maintain traction.
If you tend to daily drive your off-road vehicle and you don't do anything hardcore like mud bogging, all-terrain tires might be perfect for you!
Next are mud tires.
Mud tires feature very large treat blocks with a very aggressive tread pattern.
These tires are designed to traverse through mud and another extremely harsh terrain. They usually have a stronger sidewall than the other tires as well in order to protect your wheel.
Keep in mind that mud tires will be the loudest tire that you can buy due to their aggressive design.
If you plan to use your Jeep or truck in extremely harsh off-road conditions, then you need a mud tire!
Finally, we have hybrid tires.
These are kind of the best of both worlds. They feature a semi-aggressive tread pattern which will allow your vehicle to perform pretty well off-road while still being manageable when used on the road.
Hybrid tires are usually the most common setup for weekend off-roaders and adventurers.
We like to think of the hybrid tire as a jack of all trades but a master of none. It does everything well but a mud tire will be better off-road and an all-terrain tire will be better on the road.
If you like to go camping on the weekends, or just do some mild trailblazing, then the hybrid tire will be able to meet your needs!
At Anthem Off-Road, we sell various suspension setups from a wide variety of brands. Let's break down each type of suspension kit we offer!
- Body Lifts
Body Lift kits do exactly what their name says. They lift the body of the vehicle to make it look higher.
This is often the most cost-effective way to achieve that lifted look that so many are after.
It is important to note that a body lift won't lift any other vehicle components. While your truck or Jeep will sit higher with a body lift, it won't gain any ground clearance.
Body lifts are designed to simply give your vehicle a more aggressive look while maintaining the most OEM functionality.
- Leveling Kits
Next are leveling kits. These are typically installed on trucks and are designed to level out the stance of your vehicle.
From the factory, trucks are designed with the rear end sitting higher than the front. It is a common misconception that this is because the engine is mounted in the front so their is more weight, thus lowering the front end.
While there is more weight up front, the reason the vehicle sits higher in the rear is so that when you are pulling a trailer or have a load in the rear, the vehicle will sit level.
A leveling kit raises the front of the vehicle to counter this factory setting and make the truck level.
- Suspension Lifts
Finally, we have suspension lifts. These lift all of the components of the vehicle allowing for more ground clearance and a more aggressive stance.
Suspension lifts can be as simple as putting a block in the factory struts, or as advanced as replacing the factory struts with upgraded coilovers.
If you want more ground clearance for your off-roading adventures, you can save yourself some money by going with a standard suspension lift.
However, if you want your Jeep or truck to be extremely competitive off-road while maintaining a decent ride, coilovers are by far the best option.
The Wrap Up
We hope this helped you figure out how to find your perfect off-road setup. If you want to do some extreme things off-road, then a set of Anthem Off-Road wheels, mud tires, and a coilover suspension lift will definitely help.
No matter what your scenario, you can find everything you need for your off-road vehicle right here at Anthem Off-Road.
